1st Annual Pakistan Blog Awards

***Post might contain some lines, expressions, feelings, comments which you may not like, but remember it’s just a blogger’s opinion :) , no offense intended

Let me start post by congratulating CIO Pakistan, Google Pakistan for arranging the 1st Annual Pakistan Blog Awards and then heartiest congratulation to all the winners :)

It all started when bloggers appealed to get recognizable around the world, get award for their blog, to showcase their blogs. Then CIO Pakistan and Google Pakistan started their engines and gave us www.blogawards.pk, some bloggers nominated themselves, some got nominated by their fans and after 5 to 6 months, awards were being announced!

On 28th May 2010, bloggers were invited to Regent Plaza, Karachi for the award ceremony and new media unconference. Heading towards Regent I knew am not going to win but yet I was very excited for my friends, I had a feeling that award ceremony would be classy, one of its kind.

Ceremony started a bit late with a welcome song by Salman and Yasir, after the wonderful performance there was first session of unconference on Innovation in Media then some awards then second session on Selling 3.0 then some awards and then third session on Engage & Converge and then some awards, the bloggers were handed awesome goodies bag by CIO Pakistan and Google Pakistan, which contains our traditional Ajrak, notepad, key chain etc. Oh did I tell you about the theme :) ? It was Ajrak!!, liked it.

There were some drawbacks which I felt, not necessary that you all agree on them too :)

  • Theme was traditional, liked it no doubt.. but I think ceremony should have started by Allah’s name (Tilawat-e-Quran)
  • Sessions were quiet boring, sorry to say but I didn’t even bothered to listen to them.. they couldn’t make us listen to them
  • Till the end it was okay but then Special Jury Awards? Sorry but it looked quiet biased and unprofessional
  • Why 4 awards in Technology category :) ? 2 could be enough.. but 4?
  • Back in December, Thalassemia cause was being supported by CIO Pakistan and Google Pakistan so why not in the awards? Wasn’t it should be nominated as a Pakistan’s cause? I don’t think I should have mentioned this myself :)
  • It was advertised very well but wasn’t presented that well.. maybe because it was 1st time? Theres so much to get improved!
  • Once again Congratulation to CIO Pakistan, Google Pakistan and all the winners!

Winners list can be viewed here, CIO Pakistan’s post and photographs

As many of you have heard about ban on facebook, I just can’t get why government is banning it? I mean is it the only way to teach them a lesson?

When government don’t know what to do they simply ban the website, I mean can’t we teach the culprit some other lesson? can’t we trace the guy who started all this nonsense and send him behind the bars?

I agree that by banning facebook we are giving them financial loss and then they will remove all the nonsense, but what about the real culprits? you think they will stop? NO!, they will definitely find some other platform to harass us.

Blogspot has been banned in past, now facebook, how many websites are we going to ban? this will never stop them, there are people who talk and write nonsense about Islam and they are given the honor of being called ‘Sir’, we yet sit quiet and bear it.

If am not wrong there was some ambassador who have done something bad too? but still we sit quietly and watch..

I don’t have any concern with facebook, blogspot, anything! but government, when are they going to act intelligent? WHEN!

While traveling from M.A Jinnah road, we faced unannounced rally, roads and streets were being blocked infront of us and we were made to travel from long route, mom wanted to get done with some shopping and I insisted her to get back to home but I couldn’t argue more and we ended up going for shopping.

Asked auto driver to take us at the back of Gul Plaza, as the front was off due to rally…, we got stuck at the back because there was a sign says ‘No Entry’ and three traffic officers were there to stop the cars from going that way…, our driver asked us to get down and start walking.., if it was me, I would have.. but as mom can’t walk much I requested them to let us go.., officer didn’t listen.. we were thinking to go home…, I saw a car crossing the same way and officer letting them go.., immediately I asked driver to drive near officer and let me talk.

I simply asked him why has he allowed that car? He came near and what he said to me was very funny, he said ‘parhe likhe hi rule torna chahte hain (only literate people wants to break the rule)’, he was pointing at me and I got shocked, couldn’t control and asked him ’so you are illiterate?’, he made it his ego issue, made me stay there for 10 minutes and placed barriers ahead of auto.

Two other officers came near to us and asked me to calm down, even though I was but I asked them the same question ‘why did you let the car go?’ if you did.. now let me too..  because I ain’t going anywhere far and plus my mom can’t walk much.. otherwise I would never insist.

Both the officers made that egoistic office calm and let us go, I couldn’t stop smiling.., *oops* that made the office angry and he shouted ‘look at her! she is laughing’

LOL!, I did whatever I could just for mom.., I know many of you would think I did wrong.., I shouldn’t have ask driver to drive in no entry zone BUT what irritated me was officer breaking rule and then telling me rules? and then he made his ego issue when I pointed out his mistake? so it was a lesson taught well!, atleast from next time he won’t take risk of allowing anyone ;)

    LAHORE

The Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation and Education, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, has said the entrance test for admission to medical colleges and engineering universities will not be abolished until Booti Mafia is totally eliminated.

He was addressing an award-giving ceremony held here on Saturday at Alhamra in honour of the position holders in the Intermediate Exams-2009.

The minister said every good institution in the world was conducting entry test for admissions. He claimed Booti Mafia had been completely eliminated during the previous regime of the PML-N, however, unfortunately, it started surfacing again during the tenure of the last government. Due to the menace, talented students are being deprived of their rights, he added.

He said Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif abolished the self finance scheme last year as it was not in favour of talented students. “Around 1500 more seats are now available for admission on merit basis”, he added.

He called on stage a female student, Laiba Mukhtar, a Thalassemia patient who had secured first position in Commerce Group (Among Girls), and offered her his own chair to sit in.

The minister said he would request the chief minister to announce that the Punjab government would bear the expenses for her treatment.
